It sounds to me that your steering wheel isn't stock. I still have my
stock steering wheel and the sucker is huge (compared to my 914, that is
:). Try checking junkyards, VW shops and by call advertisers in the VW
mags.
The temperamental problem with the horn is likely due to poor metal to
metal contact on the horn contacts. Clean the metal tabs that activate the
horn.
My clock stopped working many moons ago. I replaced it with one from a
junkyard (in very good condition, I might add) but it too finally bit it.
I replaced it with a VDO tachometer and I look at it more than I ever did
the clock!

hi everyone. i'm excited that you all are so nice. i can't believe there are
so many of us. well- about my steering wheel. i have a 1972 type 3
(obviously) squareback. the steering wheel that i have now is way too small,
and is grinding on it's base, not to mention ruining all of the electronics
in the panel behind it. it's operable, but my winshield wipers dont work, and
my horn is very tempramental. i had my mechanic call around, but no luck yet.
i've tried too, and no luck either.also-- is anyone else's clock broken? i
cannot get mine to work. it's so cute too. well thanks again, please write
with some good news.---eileen----
