R O A D T R I P !!

T3,

Well, it is time for me to put all of the money, effort and pain to a test.
I am leaving with a buddy on a drive from hell in my Squareback. We have
a bobsled racing school to attend to in La Plagne, France, and we are going
to do the trip overland - Finland to France. In total, it looks like 2,000
kilometers (about 1,300 miles) per direction, through Sweden, Denmark,
Germany and Switzerland.

We plan to stop at Ahnendorp Autoteile GmbH - Kafer Cup parts producer -
(near the border with The Netherlands) and at one other VW junkyard in
Belgium stocked full of old Things (181s) and other former German Army
Volkswagens. Maybe there will be some odd T3 parts somewhere along the
way. Some NOS heat exchangers would be nice ...

The only problem looks to be driving without studded snow tires through
Germany (which has a bit of snow at the moment). I will have to take some
non-studded snow tires along and change them in Denmark - some road laws in
Germany make no sense, especially when in Finland we HAVE to have studded
snow tires on cars from December -- March.

This should be a fun one and hopefully, without any mechanical problems
(knock on wood). I have installed new brakes (rotors, calipers, cylinders,
lines, shoes, fluid), 4 new shocks, fresh alignment, major engine tune up
and even cleaned the interior glass for good measure. Lets see what
happens!

Anyway, should anything fail, uh, well, there you have it. Reports coming
later!

Patrick
