...and I'm not kidding when I say "custom." Anybody check out the second issue of the brand-new "VW Custom & Classic" magazine? There's this chopped, flared, flame-paint-job squareback with these sharp, pointy '61 Caddy tail fins grafted on the back! Yowzers! I thought I had a pretty wide tolerance for a range of custom mods, but this is waaaaay out of bounds for my tastes. Oh, and it's been converted to a bit of a panel van, too. To each his own, etc. Speaking of the new magazine... looks like they need to brush up on their T3 tech. Re: the '66 Squareback, they say: "Lowering the front was achieved by adding torsion leaf adjusters to the stock twin-beam front end. The link-pin spindles were retained..." Wow, imagine tearing out the stock easy-to-lower T3 front suspension and fabricating mounting points for a Beetle front end... Speaking of custom mods... here's a little bit of insanity that has been brewing in my mind. Imagine taking one of those little pop-tops off of a pre-'68 Westy--you know, roughly 3' x 3' square--and mounting it to the back of a squareback. Hmmm... :-o -Greg '71 squareback '63 Beetle
