Air/Heat Controls.

T3,

I have owned my Squareback since October, which was about the same time
that it started to snow here in the lackluster, frozen swampland that
Fenno-Scandia is.

Accordingly, I have not had to do any cabin heat adjustments - it is just
wide open for heat, directed to the windshield and floor vents up front.
With small trips here and there, and the damn cold weather (-5C to -30C all
winter), the inside never really gets a chance to heat up anyway. Perhaps
because the engine never fully gets warm - great for gas mileage with the
chokes on all of the time.

After I bought a new OEM exhaust, cleaned up the heat exchangers (new
cables and some hose repair), I have found that the system works quite
well. The post about "melting shoes onto the floor", came true for me when
we drove to Poland last month on the Via Baltica, through Estonia, Latvia
and Lithuania. I did not realize that at highway speeds, when the engine
is at normal operating temperature, some real heat does actually come
through the car. It was even warm enough inside to turn down the heat and
open a window (after the ice melted out of the seal).

With spring not to far away, I was wondering about the air and heater
controls. The two on the floor are the same as my Beetles', but I have no
clue about the two controls on the dash. I currently have them both all
the way in the up position. However, I don't know what adjusting them in
coordination with adjusting the floor controls can do for me. I do not
have an owner's manual, so I am in the dark.

Anyone have any help on this dumb question? Sounds as silly as asking how
to turn on the headlights ...

Thanks,

Patrick
