Now that my '71 Squareback and I are getting older, I am beginning to be bemused at some of the comments I hear about it (or me???). I was driving down the street when two teenage boys looked at the squareback (or me???) and said, "AWESOME! (Well, folks, honesty must prevail...the SB is five-years removed from its restoration, and is no longer "awesome", sad to say). A few days later I was pulling into the parking lot of the local supermarket when a group of youngsters got all excited. One of them yelled, "How old is it" (the car or me???)? All I could think to say was, "A lot oldern you!) Then I did the complex mathematical calculations and told him "26 years". Now, let me assure you that, as wistfully as I wish, my T3 is not awesome. Howsoever, it occurs to me that (a) many kids today have never seen a SQBK, because (b) there ain't any in town besides mine. God, who woulda ever believed that someday something as common as a VW would be regarded as an "awesome" piece of automotive machinery! What next will be admired...toothbrushes? Phil dillard@suu.edu
