The availability is usually a little better in Germany, depending on the
cars. The big difference is in the pricing. Parts usually cost less in
Marks in G than in $ in the US. Best examples are the all seals.
Unfortunately VW is deleting all older parts (everything aircooled)
right now to make room for the many newer models. T III parts are
dropping out of stock daily. Thats why I stocked up on seals. It is
suspected that there will be nothing available in 1 - 2 years or when
stock runs out.
Right now it is a matter of acting fast.
I can recommend to everybody my german parts supplier:
Schuetzenhofer und Ehring
Tel Germany 02603/14154
I have to look up their fax (I think 0261/16657), 99% sure.
They say they would sell stuff to you listguys for 20% above their VW
cost, which makes it about German retail. You should supply the numbers
though ("please send me the thingamagic behind the whatshamacallit in
the front" won't work).
They should have the picture catalogs in stock.
But: I find it more senseable to just copy the pictures from the old
parts manuals.
I have a NOS 63 parts list and a 72, nice pictures and better quality
than the reprints.
I also have a type 34 catalog.
Since there are a lot of pictures it will not be totally cheap, but 10 -
15 $ should do it. Anybody interested? If I get enough people interested
I'll think about it.
