The so-called "cool tin" is stock for all T3 engines 71-3.  I have 
heard that it was never used inT1 or T2 engines, but the part # is 
113 119 451, so it looks like it must have been used on beetles, at 
least.

To install it on an earlier T3 you also need to use the late style 
lower and rear air deflector plates.  The general consensus is that 
this is a good idea.
