If you are replacing your muffler and can't get those two big nuts that attach the heat exchanger to the muffler to loosen, here is what I found relatively easy to do. 1. Cut the old muffler off with a hacksaw (with or without engine in) as close to the nuts as possible. 2. Use a 1 13/16" socket with an impact wrench. You don't even have to heat or lube the nut. It should take less than 10 seconds per nut. If you don't have a pneumatic impact wrench, then you'll have to figure out how to get them to a tire shop or garage. The best way is to leave the assembly on the engine, so tow it or cut the muffler off after you get to the shop, or better yet, drop your engine. They'll charge you less than $10 to do it and there is no risk in damaging the heater boxes using box wrenches and vices. —Casey Mickelson 65 notch 63 rag top 91 Synchro
