For gas heater info contact Ark Mirvis <heaterman@nac.net>. I see that he
unsubscribed so you cannot contact him through this list. He sells and
maintains gas heaters. They're priced about $600. He is German (from
Germany), lives in New Jersey and worked as an electrical engineer. A gas
heater will keep you extremely warm.
The auxiliary heaters are either just fans to blow more air (this does not
make the air any warmer, though) or, for the Type I, use the waste heat
from the oil cooler. I have my doubts about these. Oil lines *inside* the
vehicle? There's a messy accident just waiting to happen! How much waste
heat will be available *in the winter* (clue: not very much, especially in
very cold climates!). And, to make it more of a hassle, you have to
reroute the oil cooler for use when the weather gets warmer. This is very
sketchy as only the engine "knows" when it needs to use the cooler based
upon the environmental conditions.
My type three cents,

What does anyone think of gas heaters? Are they reliable? Will they keep me
warm? I saw a add in a hot vws magazine for auxillary heater system(or
something like that). I think it runs off the gas but i am not sure. Will
these things heat up my car pretty quickly?
If I did decide to get one, can you buy them used? Does anyone on the list
have one for sale? Is there a way to get it cheaper than a 160 bucks?
