As to your wheels, there are several possibilities. The Bentley manual only covers 68-73; it is vaguely possible that 67 was different, but I strongly doubt it. In around 69 VW changed from a large dia valve stem to a small one; if the base of your valve stems is more than 3/4" dia then they are old, if they are about 1/2" dial then they have been changed and came from a 73 super beetle (see data in the late T1 Bentley.) Can you read the dates on your rims? I also wrote my straightedge test from memory, so I may have gotten that part a bit off. I don't feel like verifying that these days as it's about 30F out there now. The 41mm wheels would space your wheels out about 0.200", which is not enough to hurt anything, especially if they are the same all around.
