Re: #*@$!!! MISS (kinda long)

My initial thoughts:
Keep the electronic points (definitely!). If the coil puts out a bigger
spark then keep it as well but use better spark plug wires (8mm or larger).
Increase the gap on the spark plugs by .005". When changing the spark
plug gap you will need to adjust the timing as well. Keep doing so until
you notice a decrease in performance (mileage is a good indicator) then go
back by .005". This will give you the optimum plug gap for the increased
power of the coil. Use standard plugs, not Splitfire or Platinum. Keep
the wires spaced at least 1/4" from each other and make sure they are
firmly seated on the plugs. I think that you are loosing energy through
your wires.

Clean the jets in your carb -- one may be blocked or plugged. Good idea on
changing the filters!

Like I said, my first thoughts. Hope things get fixed!

Hey everyone

I guess you can tell I'm a bit frustrated at present...hopefully
someone can give me some ideas...here's the deal...
...
The past couple weeks have been the worst though...about two weeks ago,
I noticed the rear of my car, on the corner where the tail pipe is, was
all black...it had run terrible that morning to work (I was worried
about making it there)...that weekend, I pulled it in the garage, did a
compression check...between 140 and 144 on all four...plugs were fouled
so I put some new ones in...then it wouldn't start at all. After about
3 hours of looking over everything, (I couldn't see how a tune-up would
cause it not to run) I took the ignitor out of it and put the points
back in and it fired right up. Dialed it all back in, and it ran a lot
better, but not right...
Any ideas?? Everything is dialed in...timing, points,
valves...ignition system is new...the dist. is only 4 months old...I'm
lost and I'm getting really frustrated...the black 'oil' coming out the
tail pipe worries me. Any ideas are appreciated.
