Jason, I guess apologies are in order, I personally didn't respond as my
car has fixed windows and any advise I gave to you would be just a guess
at best and possibly wrong. As for your problem, unfortunately you've
found that one of the paradoxes of our particular cars is that the parts
that are available seem to be the ones we don't need at 12 midnight
before a long trip. One of the things that I appreciate most about this
list is that some of my questions about my most puzzling problems have
been answered without my having asked them. Threads come and go all the
times here, some of them aren't really important to me, but hey, they
must have been to someone. I've asked some questions that got absolutely
no response, answered some that hadn't needed to be, and actually might
have helped in one or two cases. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't be
able to run down to the local Pep Boys, or VW dealership for that
matter, and ask these questions. This list is kind of like fishing-you
bait your hook with an intriguing question, throw it in, wait patiently
and Whoa! Nothing. You try again, and next thing you know, you've got
your answer. Don't give up, we all have full time lives to deal with as
well, cars and computers are just for fun. I think Greg M. deserves a
lot more pay than he gets to keep this whole thing afloat (thanks again,
Greg).
Now, as to your problem, have you looked at a parts yard or junk yard?
Probably won't find something like you need anywhere else. All the big
parts suppliers and manufacturers have parts that they can max profit
from or at least appeal to the most consumers with. Did you try to fish
them out or look at the base of the window behind the trim panel? Might
be in there, take a look-poke around, that's the best teacher of all.
Most important-don't get discouraged. Good luck.
