Re: Body Switch


Been there, done that, got the T-shirt...


I did a '68 manual body in good condition on a '69 Auto pan.

Easy, if you got a few REALLY close friends. (ie,
buy-'em-a-case-of-beer-and-pizza-and-they'll-lift-anything kinda
friends)

Vin numbers?  Take the tag out of the front nose of the body to be
disposed of (the one that matches the pan) and after the switch, rivet
it where the new body had it's tag.

The body is actually a part number to be replaced in an accident. The
Chassis/Pan is the actual carrier of the vin number. In Texas, as long
as the tag in the nose matches the chassis, they don't care. So unless
other states are different...

Just make sure you disconnect ALL wiring, cables, hoses etc. before
pulling the body off.  I usually get a minimum of 4 guys to lift (6
preferably) one at each fender opening, and extras at the doors, and at
least one to check for wires, free to disconnect forgotten items and to
guide/direct the body back on.

Make sure to replace the body seal. I don't care what it looks like,
replace it. You'll thank me later.
