Got the right caliper, but....

Well I think the veering to the right could be cause by any number of
things. First you need to look at why it is lower on that corner of the
car. The geometry on that wheel is bound to bee different because the
body is lower. Quite possibly the caster/camber and toe could all
change while under braking due to a worn ball joint, tie rod end or
broken torsion bar. Before you can expect this thing to brake correctly
you need to inspect the front end. Go to any place that does alignments
and they will most likely do a front end inspection for free. They will
also give you a free estimate for the repairs. You are never obligated
to have them do them. This will give you the opinion of someone that
always deals with front ends. Make sure you go someplace that deals
with VW's on a regular basis if you can. The front end is a little
different than the usual beast and some green front end guy might not
diagnose the torsion problem correctly.
If you want specifics on how loose ball joints or tie-rod ends
affect the handling under braking E-mail me directly.

Well, went back to the junk yard and got the right caliper and a brake
line, since the old one looked like it was about to burst. I am happy to
inform that I did the brake job without my mechanic friend's assistance, and
WOW, no smoke this time.
On the bad news front, even though the brakes seem to be doing fine, the
car still veers to the right. Any ideas as to what I should look into first?
By the way, thanks to all of you who answered my previous inquiry.
My girlfriend and I have decided on a name for our Type 3: Quasi, of
course, short for Quasimodo. As a reference to the lower right side. I know,
kind of sick, but also cute :)
