Yes, try the Robert Bently manual for Type 3. I believe the correct
title, etc. is:

Volkswagen
Fastback, Squareback
Official Service Manual, Type 3, 1968,1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973
By: Volkswagen of America (Robert Bently, Publishers)
$39.95 (US)

You can find this book on-line at Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=083760057X/7188-2800819-641931

The is a complete auto tranny section, including troubleshooting.

A quick look at the troubleshooting area of this book reveals:

Problem: No drive in any selector lever position.

Probable Cause:
a. ATF low
b. Manual valve not hooked to selector lever
c. Pump or pickup screen clogged
d. Defect in transmission pump or pump drive
e. Broken shaft or planetary gear set

You'll need to get the book in order to get the full details on handling
the repairs. Good luck!
