One idea that should work because the wiring for a cruise control carries very 
little current:  use fine gauge wire.  Since durability is also a problem, I 
would get 5-conductor, 20-ga, antena rotor wire at your nearby Radio Shack.  
Feeding it through the steering shaft may be a pain, but should be do-able and 
keep the existing horn ground wire.
