CA smog

Here's a little tidbit about our own experience w/ CA smog. Years ago we 
had to do a one-time (at registration) smog of our '65 Baja. We went to 
a gas station where the guy had no idea what a VW should measure at, so 
my husband just told him what to set the machine at (he was working as a 
mechanic at the time and sounded believable). Anyway, it was pretty much 
running like sh** that day, but thanks to ignorance and a nice hole in 
the muffler that sucked clean air through it, we passed w/ flying 
colors. So, you can try that, or befriend a smog tech and have him hook 
up his own car and use it to pass yours. Legal? No. Do I reccomend this? 
Can't with a clear conscience. But... ;) -T
