Re: Notch Question

Type 3 cars were also assembled in South Africa from 1963 to
August 1969. My Sqaureback is registered as a January '69
model although I think it is realy a '68. The official delivery date
to the VW agency from which my dad bought the car is 15-01-1969. BTW
how long did it take to assemble a Type 3?

The mechanicals of the cars assembled here were slightly different to
that of other countries. We only had things like IRS, disc
brakes and dual hydraulic circuits on the automatic models which were
available in '69. It is also interesting to note that all the parts
on these cars were imported from Germany and there were no local
content whatsoever! (Try doing that today!!!!) I think the chassis
numbering system also corresponds to what was used elsewhere. Mine
says: 369022143
