Re: Brakes

hello,
I just thought I'd throw some insight into this subject. i had a 1974
super beetle and had similar problems i replaced the pads fluid
everything. i was driving it away from the shop hot roding around in my
rebuilt 1600cc with dual carbs and started to pass one of my friends. to
make a long story short. A car came at me head to head and i couldn't
stop. after all that work it wouldn't stop. I pumped the breaks as much as
i could and ran my car into a ditch. the back brakes had worked the best.
i found out by the skid marks. i flatened all four tires and had to push
my battered car back to the auto shop where i was working on it at. i got
back and found out that i hadn't tightened the front brakes enough and i
also had some air left to get out.

lesson 1 never drive fast in order to check out brakes.

lesson 2 bleed all air out.

lesson 3 make sure adj.s are made correctly.

lesson 4 if all else fails take it into a shop and have someone look at it
with you and explain what is wrong then decide wether or not to fix it
yourself.

other possible problems may be the lines, faulty cylinders, fadding
(because adj. is to tight), or maybe the peddle needs adjusting.

thats just some thoughts i had on it but who knows for sure.
