In VolksWorld (a British mag, recommended), Paul Barrow puts his "mental images" to paper each month. These are very good design sketches of what one could do to alter the various types of air-cooled VWs. In the October '96 issue he sketched what he called "the 'Spacer-Edge', essentially a razor edge wagon". In this sketch he largely retained the bodywork below the belt line, relocated the rear window (in a hinged frame) to the rear and lenghtened the roof to suit (compare with the BMW 2002 Touring if you know it). It really looks great - on paper! Normally I am for bone stock, though if I had a rotten, unsaveable T3 KG I could to let it go to someone with a welder in one pocket and Paul Barrow's sketch in the other. I wonder if the owner of the "Ghia Variant" was inspired by this sketch? Hanno Spoelstra <H.L.Spoelstra@WbMt.TUDelft.NL> Bloemendaal, The Netherlands
