Maybe because all the earlier ones are beyond repair even for us enthusiasts 
and the only thing we would be willing to tackle is the what's left of the 
70-73 models!!

Personally, I like the shape of the later model.  The earlier shape is nice 
and whilst it does do that nostalgic thing, it give me the impression from 
front that it is laid back and a quiet sort of car.  The later shape has more 
of a forward stance which I think is better.  (of course these are my opinions 
and you can all drive whatever you like as long as it is a Type 3).  But lets 
keep as many as we can on the road for as long as possible!!
