    Sounds like someone has parked youe car with the ass facing into the hot 
southern sun!   These reflectors were once red, but bleached out over the years.
Interesting thought though, cut a hole in the housing and the fender underneath it, mount a bulb holder and Walla! trick backup lights...Hmmmmmm
