All, You may remember my saga of the engine build for the 'S' notch that I have owned forever? Well I did the legal thing and registered my car for the weekend and took it for a rather long drive for the firsat time (1st legal long drive!). I filled it with 105 oktane racing gas and went to throught the Adelaide hills area to the Barossa which is a very beautiful area north of where I live and a lot of Australian wine is produced/grown here. There is also a lot of German heritage etc as the early settlers here came from Germany (obviously!). Well after filling up and at about 99,900 miles we went and I sat on about 70 MPH all the way for about 1 and a bit hours. It just purred like I imagined it would have done back in '64. It realy made the 6 month engine build all worth while. No oil leaks or problems at all. When we got to the park, we set up a barbecue and had a couple of snags, talked the usual VW crap, and late that afternoon set off for home. I was with other mates in their VW's and it was good to drive through the towns and see the peoples faces with our little procession (about 5 cars, but part of a 70 VW group). Even my mates in their 1776cc /1835cc cars couldn't believe how well my single port standard 'S' motor went. Very satisfying. They wont believe how fast my 2276cc goes in the Panel Van either I can tell you! Well I hope I have inspired you all to get out and drive your classic Type 3's. I haven't had so much fun driving since I went racing about 3 or 4 months ago (BMW's- sorry!). Final odo reading last night was about 00100. Took me seven years to push 2000 miles! Enjoy your T3. Aaron.
