Okay, I double-checked my Idiot's Guide (just to make sure my memory was
correct) and with my mechanic: There are pair of points below the ignition
points plate in the distributor that are for "firing" the actual fuel
injectors and not the spark plugs. Thus the two sets of points are
functionally independent of each other. So you can use an electronic
ignition with FI to replace the ignition points but you must still keep the
injector points (which are more difficult to get to than the ignition
points so don't worry about pulling the wrong set).
Just as a side note: The reason you don't have to worry about the injector
points as much is due to the fact that they pass much lower voltage than
the ignition points so pitting isn't a big deal.

You have to be careful with a fuel injected type three. You have to have
the contacts in the stock dizzy to fire the injectors. I have not seen an
electronic ignition that will work with the Fuel injection.
