IRS vs swing

I should be studying for a final, but I keep assembling a Squareback in my
head. So I have a question.

Is there any fundamental disadvantage to a Squareback with swing axle
suspention vs IRS? I'm very much leaning towards buying a Square to
restore at a future date. I want a '60s model, but would prefer one with
carbs, which would probably make it a '66 to '68 (?). I think driving this
Karmann Ghia project car around has renewed my enthusiasm for VWs, which
to be honest was shattered when I gave up on the '69.
