Just a couple of days ago, my auto trans started drifting into neutral when shifting from 2 to 3. It wasn't too bad, but just caused a momentary panick attack. First thing, checked the fluid - good, but I topped it off just in case. That didn't do it. Next, I check for vacuum leaks. there were many possible leaks. I replaced all vacuum tubing. Hopefuly this will do the trick. The problem seems worse under heavy acceleration (pulling onto a highway), and was easied by letting off the gas. I'll test it tomorrow, but I had to wait for some RTV to dry. Why RTV? That was another "little trick" used by the former owner when installing a T1 block into a 69 fastback using a crappy Holley 2bbl carb. Should I end up replacing my trans, I'll likely replace the engine too. I know someone with a couple working auto trans and about 4 T3 engine blocks in varying states of disrepair (3 are frozen). I can probably pick up an old block dirt cheap, but it will need to be completely rebuilt. Hopefuly I can wait to do this next summer. How difficult would it be to rehabilitate a frozen block? Could a good machine shop do this easily? I haven't priced things out yet. $$$ is tight, esp. at Christmas. -- Dan Hirth Raleigh, North Carolina dhirth@mms.net 69 fastback
