I removed the RF fender on the crate to do that side and discovered and INTACT original headlight connector. I was wondering when I got the notch how the heck they were supposed to be connected to the wires and was SHOCKED to see that the wires slip in push-on connectors!, no solder, no crimp just a weak little spring against the contact NO WONDER 6V cars have trouble with the lights!!! Who let the Lucas engineer in the VW R&D department?? This idea cant last long especially in the Rust belt, I think Ill eather replace it with a modern unit or solder the wires on... WOW!
