I believe there is a single wire which runs up to the gauge cluster 
that should get switched 12V. The place to start is with a voltmeter 
or test light, so you can verify what voltage you have, and where.

Who knows, it could even be a bad switch, but you won't know unless 
you have some way of testing for voltage.
