How did the seal lip look? Was it still pointed? If you stretched it 
did it have little cracks? (I don't expect to see cracks in the new 
red ones.)

I'll bet those are silicone rubber and won't be as affected by time 
and heat as some of the old seals.

I would at least oil the OD of the new seal to allow it to slide into 
place gracefully.
