There are several possiblities, including a bad ignition switch starter 
contact, or just a wire that fell off.

First check to make sure that it still won't start. Sometimes they have a hard 
time when hot.

If your '70 is MT then the starter is the same as a beetle. If it's AT, then 
you need a more special starter, which may be the same as the beetle autostick 
starter.
