<x-flowed>I hadn't considered the "solvent" effect.  I know that for the pump I'm 
working with, we use Viton for diesel and karosene and EP for methanol.  
I did clog up an idle jet in the process anyway.  I have a filter before 
the engine compartment, but maybe the crud came from somwhere 
downstream.  The filter is just a clear plastic paper type.
