I guess I still don't see the "point." I guess I really need a good 
look into a notch trunk.

Is there some other reason why the notch air intakes could not have 
been done just the same as the fasty and square? It sure seems 
strange that VW would go and do this differently for the notch if the 
"standard" way would have worked.

Of course it may turn out that the airflow over the notch changed 
enough to actually make the side louvers non-functional. That would 
be an interesting turn of events. We may need to add some of those 
yarn tufts to the rear quarter panels of a notch, too.
