There's room in the engine bay for an AC compressor with a T4, if you use a small modern unit. Shad Laws had AC in his awe-inspiring '71 Fastback with a 2563cc T4 engine. No compromised cooling either -- the compressor pulley goes in place of the spacer between the fan and fan hub. Changing the belt is a PITA though .. such a tradeoff. :-)

With the system I used (for an early 71), it follows the t-3 Bentley wire
for wire.

Do you have any other ECUs laying around you could plug in to test with? I mean yeah. a '73 T3/AT ECU (for example) wouldn't be *right*, but would help troubleshoot whether the fuel pump circuit in your ECU is or isn't the problem.
