Now you went and done it Jim, you got me thinking again!
I'm afraid that after I sent that last message I got to thinking that your
wiring was completely different from what I am used to in the later cars. I
think Russ posted a wiring diagram which I had forgotten about, which showed
the power coming thru the fuse box BEFORE it got to the switch. If that's the
way your '65 is wired, then you should just ignore my previous comments.
Can't get to the garage again but, since I've ruled out the front to rear
wiring, I'll retest the fuse box. One thing though that just came to mind
all though it's a real outside chance. When I switched to 12 volt I didn't
change the bulbs in the speedometer. Since the wire from the switch goes up
to the back of the speedometer(from what I can see), if a bulb has been
fried would it create an open circuit?
Running those 6V bulbs on 12V would certainly fry them, but that wouldn't cause
any other problems, just a few fried bulbs. Just be careful that you haven't
overlooked anything expensive that the 12V might also fry.
