You may be having trouble with your pump, or the filter or the inlet screen. If you continue to have trouble with your pump, you may want to consider letting me rebuild it. I've diagnosed a problem that these can develop and have a solution for it. I've fixed one of my own pumps, but I've not done this repair for anyone else yet. Given the age of the pumps and the fact that it's a rubber part that deteriorates, I think this is going to become a more and more common problem. Start by just pulling the input line into the pump. With gas in the tank, gravity flow should provide a strong pencil-sized stream out of that hose. If you just get a trickle, then either your filter or the inlet screen in the tank is clogged. Fix those first. The Bentley is the best manual ever printed for our cars and will pay for itself rather quickly. They are particularly useful for the 68-73 FI cars, for which they were specifically written. I have several copies available for sale from $25 to $40 (depending on condition) including shipping. All of them are nice early printings with the wiring diagrams in color. For those with carbs (any year), I recommend buying a Haynes in addition to the Bentley. I don't recommend the Chiltons to anyone. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
