He'll do a good job if he's willing to follow your manual. Some important points: 1) The lower ball joints are to be left with the notch pointing straight forward. Only the upper ball joint should be adjusted. 2) Try to adjust the toe-in and the camber to the minimum within the stated range. 3) The best tool for adjusting the toe-in is a pipe wrench. Apparently this is not a common tool in many alignment shops, so I've taken to bringing mine with me. 4) Be careful when loosening the pinch bolts for the ball joints, Using a cold chisel here to spread the clamp will often put a nick in the bolt shank where the bolt will sooner or later break. That's a hard thing to repair, so it's best to just never break on of those bolts. Torque them to spec when finished. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
