Some bus owners swear by some type of tar sealant. You can get it in a caulking tube. It always stays soft, gets into all the nooks and crannies, prevents rust. You basically squirt it in the channel of the rubber before installing the window. I did this when I installed my bus windows. It held for a few years. I probably didn't use enough of the stuff, and probably didn't prepare the metal surface well enough. It cleans up pretty easily with wd-40, as you are likely to get some all over. IF you do need to clean up, and you have just recently painted your vehicle, you need to wait a little while, as the wd-40 can react with your fresh paint. -Kevin '71 FI squareback '65 kombi somerville, ma -----Original Message----- From: Dave Sanderson [mailto:porschedave@rennlist.net] Subject: [T3] window installing Greetings We are about to install the front and rear windows on the Notch. I read Russ' "how-to" and wondered what the consensus is on doing it yourself. Also, Russ made no mention of using a sealant and I wondered, given the recent discussion on leaky windows, would you recommend using a sealant? We have good glass and new West Coast Metric seals. Thanks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
