Yes, this sounds correct for an MT type 3.

There's really no conflict, because I believe one of the wires in the special 
plug goes to the main power relay (under the back seat) while the other goes to 
the brain.

This is a bit different from the originals, but it might work. I don't know if 
it will accept the special plug correctly, so some "rework" might be necessary. 
I have good used OE relays, but they would cost a bit more by the time they got 
to you in Canada.

The way to check this is to see if you're getting full voltage on the output 
side of your fuel pump relay.

Just what is the problem you're having, and what have you seen that makes you 
suspect the relay?
