That sounds like a very good description of the knob that was introduced in 
'68. That was a soft rubber part with a hard plastic insert. That knob was used 
in '68-9, but was replaced by '71 by a similar knob that had a conical backside 
so you could get your fingers behind it. I've never been sure which style was 
used in '70.

The '67 knob looks like it was soft rubber with no insert. It may have the 
conical backside, but I can't tell for sure. I had this photo of a '67 on 
Russ's web site.

I THINK the '66 knobs were hard grey plastic. That's what's on the light switch 
that I've got.

Of all of these, I like the looks of the 68-9 version the best, but the later 
style is much easier to pull out to turn on the lights.

How about the years before '66? Did they change?
