<x-flowed>I had some similar problems with my '63 notch with single side draught carb. 
I found that the mechanical parts in the choke housing had come off.  I 
wasn't able to correct it but it seemed to be getting stuck.  I loosened it 
up and put everything back together.  Like I said I wasn't able to correct 
it but I just mad esure it wasn't allowing anything else to get stuck on it. 
I also put a quart of  Marvel Mystery oil in that same night and teh next 
day all was fine.  Hope you find the problem soon, I know that these things 
makes me frustrated.  Jack
