[T3] Inspections and "safety"

A little more on the Inspections and Safety issue:

* Gov't officials LOVE the "safety" and "security"
stuff. Give's em haloes to show the public on TV.
BUT...a cynical person might notice that these
officials go for forcing PUBLIC individuals to protect
themselves at virtually every turn, while only
addressing the most aggregious safety violations and
threats of private industry....the entities that give
them the campaign funds, investment returns, golfing
trips, and future "consulting" jobs, etc.

Highways and cars are inherently dangerous...not to
mention the pollution and costs of oil and oil wars
and etc. Public safety could be maximized by a)
highway building moratoriums, b) proper zoning laws to
prevent uncontrolled sprawl, and c) adequate funding
for Public Transportation. But that isn't going to
happen because there's not max money in it for the few
in control.

Therefore WE, under threat of arrest and fines and
auto impoundment etc, must stand on our (helmetted)
heads to make highways and cars seem as safe as
possible so that the profiteering industries won't be
condemned and denied subsidies and so forth.
Also, we must be "safe at all times" to protect the
insurance industry from actually having to pay for
accidents and injuries.

(Remember, insurers ARE ALSO BIG INVESTORS. They
have holdings in every part of the
auto/oil/highway/sprawl culture. They make more that
way than they would if everyone rode trolleys, trains
and buses or bikes...or lived near where they work
etc.)

Safety is all well and good, who can object?...but
doing it for THIS private industrial benefit, with
cops at the ready in case you don't, that's what
sticks in ones craw. No cops bust THEM if their
factories or SUVs pollute everyone's air and lungs. NO
"safety inspections" for most of them. They can
inspect themselves. We ought distinquish between
"Corporate Benefitting Safety" and "Public Benefitting
Safety", perhaps.

Bottom line: Who's in CHARGE anyway?
