And NO noise (clunk, whirrr) of any kind from the back of the car?

Like I said, I hear the solenoid clicking, but no engine turning.

Okay, sorry, I missed that. (Are you sure this is the solenoid clicking, and not just the FI relays? The solenoid would make a fairly heavy CLUNK, not just a little click.)

I would try this a bunch of times, like 20-30 clicks, but if that doesn't make any difference then I'd try the suggestion that others have made, to break into the red solenoid wire on the right side of the tunnel and try to touch it directly to the battery + terminal. That MIGHT give the solenoid just enough extra boost to force it to make contact.

When you hear the click, do the idiot lights dim just a bit, a lot, or not at all?

Have you tried turning the engine over with a wrench on the generator nut, just to make sure it isn't seized up? It should be fine, but it's worth checking.

I'm hoping to avoid having to do something like that. It is backed up against a wall an close to one on the right.

Oh, I had this pictured wrong. Is it somewhere that a couple of friends could help you push it to somewhere better, otherwise, you may just end up having to get it towed. Sorry.

hallelujah! A Miracle. It healed itself. Thanks for all the help anyway. Now I'll be posting another question under a new subject.
