You're ingenious! >Steve J. > > Back when I worked in auto parts, I used to replace strut cartridges in the machine shop all the time, but thats kind of different. Typically, you'd take your strut, and if it had a threaded cap, you'd remove the cap and slide out the old cartridge. There wasn't always a threaded cap, though. Sometimes there was a line where you had to hacksaw off the top, and the strut cartridge replacement kit would have a self-tapping threaded cap that would hold the cartridge in.. These were ALWAYS originally oil-filled struts, since sawing through a gas strut could be dangerous. What was neat about these is that you'd see all the innards of the old oil strut- they're remarkably simple creatures, really. You always did this job over a bucket to catch all the oil. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
