In my experience, I reckon the VW ones are superior.  Maybe I've not found the
best of the non-original.  There are lots of aspects where VW branded parts are
better - in some cases they are the same parts inspected after manufacture and
stamped VW or not depending on quality (not in the case of mufflers of course).

I think the genuine VW mufflers seem much heavier than others I've felt - but
that's not scientific.  They often seem to hold the paint coating longer too,
even where you might expect it to be very hot.  Better quality materials maybe.
Certainly they sold for a lot more!
