The dash fan was introduced in '71, but it only pushes cold outside 
air from in front of the windshield.

I've never seen a heat exchanger that rusted thru into the inside of 
the heated air space. They made that pipe thick enough that this 
never becomes a problem. The problems always occur at the ends, at 
the joint to the muffler.
