Entirely, Phil, and it's good sense to replace such an important component anyway.

I guess a bit of resistance in the contact wire, wear in the heel, poor
connection to the baseplate could all reduce the spark power slightly, maybe to
below what was needed, coupled with problems like a cap that's a bit dirty
between the two HT sockets, a bit of carbon on the plugs as they had been
misfiring, HT leads that had broken down slightly due to hotter environment and
a host of other minor shortcomings. They all tend to add up.


I'm chasing something that elusive in a Polo - occasional misfire under greater
load - very difficult to replicate the effect unless on the road, and lots of
sub-systems it might be. No points to replace, unfortunately!
