I can see two interesting things in your pictures. First of all the bevel 
goes towards the governer. Is part of it inside the end of the governor 
shaft - should I knock it or press it in a bit? Also, the shaft of the drive 
pinion sticks out of the sleeve further than I thought. If I press mine in 
the whole way then only a little bit of it is visible. Obviously it is not 
supposed to go the whole way in.

Could you measure how much of the pinion sticks out of the end of the 
sleeve?

The whole thing is obviously very worn and loose. Would this have affected 
its operation when it was in use?
