Re: Governor o-ring (was:Re: [T3] Passed test - good and bad news)

<x-flowed windows-1255>>> I tried to remove the governor to see if it looks like it needs cleaning.
I
couldn't get it out. Bentley just says "pull it out" I assume there is more
to it than this, or should I just pull harder?

Don't pull the govenor!!!! There is a little drive pinion like the square on the end of a speedo cable. If this comes loose, it will fall into the differential, and then you are in deep do-do.

You're not gonna believe this, but that is exactly what's happened. I took the car for a drive and it wouldn't shift out of first. Obviously I took it home immediately and looked up the problem in the Bentley trouble shooting guide. It said the problem was with the governor. I opened up the cover and this time the governor just came out in my hand, minus the drive pinion.

Isn't there a saying about God loving idiots or something? I was able to get the drive pinion out with magnet! Phew!!! I think I've been incredibly lucky.

How do I reassemble it and make sure it doesn't come out again?

Thanks,

The Idiot.
