Do you think > I'd be better off changing to the "E" ECU? The only systems that are compatable with the 5-pin TVS are the 72 and 73. Those years use the early and late brains respectively and the E PS. Of those, I recommend the 73. The D brain is from late 70.5 & 71. I'm in the process of setting up to try to recalibrate PSs which have been tampered with. I also have good used ones here, but there's no reason why a tampered one should not be restorable. OTOH, I really havn't done one yet, so I may be leaning more on wishful thinking than foresight here. If you were willing to send me your PS, I might be willing to make you my beta site, but I really have to try this with some I have here first. > >You should also have a distributor with vacuum advance but no vacuum retard. > > Right. And the vacuum holds on my tongue when I do that disgusting test. ;-) And the actuating arm on that vac can should have 505 stamped in it. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
