They've already made it - have a look at a T1 Ghia and an Audi TT side on - it has the same slim pillars, haunches at the rear, rounded design. If beetle was reborn as new beetle, then this is surely Neu131. First off, there's the greater familiarity of the car (vs any T3, even the T34), and secondly, with modern powertrain systems, they could actually make it perform quite nicely- something the original really couldn't do. It's hard to make a retro product that appeals to such a tiny community (such as ours) have real mass appeal. It would be like a retro Rabbit/Golf A1.
